Japanese feudalism
Broadly, feudalism was a system for structuring society around relationships derived from the holding of land in exchange for service or labour. Japanese feudalism differs from European feudalism in that Japanese feudalism emphasised obligation. The relationship was simply the serf being inferior to his superior, the lord and thus was obligated to provide food and labor. See European feudalism.
