Journey to the West
One of the Four Great Classical Novels in Chinese literature and written by Wu Cheng'en. It is loosely based on the Buddhist monk Xuanzang's pilgrimage to India and some traditional folk tales.
In the main section of the novel, the monk Tang San Zang is on a pilgrimage to bring back the holy scriptures from the Western Heavens. On the way, he meets Sun Wu Kong the Monkey King and obtains two disciples, Zhu Ba Jie and Sha Wu Jing. On their journey, they are regularly being attacked by demons who want to gain immortality by eating Tang San Zang's flesh.
