Modern English

Modern English is the form of the English language spoken since the Great Vowel Shift in England, completed in roughly 1550. The period of Modern English is marked by English being adapted all around the world through colonisation by the British Empire. As of 1999, there were over 1 billion speakers of English either as a first or second language, making English a common language for use in international diplomacy, business relations and controlling aircraft.
