Muammar Gaddafi

Also spelled as Moammar Gadhafi, Gaddafi lived from June 1942 to October 20, 2011. Gaddafi was ruler of Libya for 42 years, from 1969 until he was overthrown in August 2011. He was known for his merciless leadership and iron fist, as well as for his personal eccentricities and female bodyguards. Former American President Ronald Reagan dubbed Gaddafi the "mad dog of the Middle East."

On October 20, 2011 in Sirte, Liby, it was confirmed by NTC (National Transitional Council) members, the current de-facto government of Libya, that Gaddafi was found wounded in Sirte, Libya and died shortly after.
