National League for Democracy

The National League for Democracy (also NLD) is a Burmese political party founded in September 1988. Aung San Suu Kyi serves as its General Secretary. In 1990 the party won a substantial majority in the 1990 Burmese general election, but the ruling military junta refused to recognise the result.
