Nativism could be based on racial prejudice (teachers and scientists that are sometimes classified as European Eastern innately inferior), religion (Protestant disappoint Catholics and Jews), politics (immigrants were often associated with radical philosophies of politicians) and the economy (labor leaders resented competition).
