Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (October 13, 1948 – August 16, 1997) was one of the best performers of qawwali, a type of Muslim devotional music. Considered one of the greatest singers ever recorded, he could perform at a high level of intensity for several hours. He engaged in collaborations and experiments with Western artists, including Peter Gabriel, Pearl Jam and Asian Dub Foundation, and became a well-known world music artist.
