Peisistratus
Tyrant who seized power briefly in Athens in the 560s BC, and permanently from 546 to 527 BC. He was a relatively benign ruler who presided over Athens at a time of increasing prosperity. He appears to have built temples and may have begun the Panathenaic festival.
