People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is the largest animal rights organization in the world. They count with more than 2 million members and supporters. The objective of the founders of PETA was to offer a way to help for those who want to change society. They do so promoting a healthy vegan diet and showing how easy it is to shop cruelty-free.

PETA focuses its actions in factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry, the four areas in which "the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time". PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.

PETA's first case, Silver Spring monkeys in 1981, became the first arrest and criminal conviction of an animal experimenter in the U.S.
