Residente is the artistic name of René Pérez Joglar, the vocalist of the group Calle 13. His nickname came from his childhood: when he went home he had to identify himself to the guard as residente (resident). Residente was born the 23 de Febrero de 1978 in Hato Rey (Puerto Rico). His father was a lawyer and his mother an actress (Flor Joglar). René studied plastic arts in Puerto Rico and animation in Georgia in the Savannah College of Art and Design. Currently he is dating a brasilian girl called Renata.
