The previous record, 13.1 mph was beat by the Robo Cheetah's speed record of 18 mph. defence Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA) believes the robot will be able to run at speeds of 40 mph and a free running version is believed to be created by next year. Developers hope the Robo Cheetah may have future battlefield implications.
