Royal Navy
The Royal Navy is the naval warfare service branch of the British Armed Forces. Its roots begin in the 16th century under King Henry VIII. From the end of the 17th century to well into the 20th century it was the most powerful navy in the world as it helped establish the British Empire as the dominant world power. Today it is second only in size to the United States Navy and has 98 ships and 170 aircraft.
