Salif Keita
Musician from Mali, born in 1949. Ostracized during his childhood owing to his albinism, despite his royal heritage, Salif left home to join a government sponsored band in 1967. In 1973, he joined Les Ambassadeurs, a group which became internationally popular, despite needing to flee political unrest in the mid-70s. He moved to Paris in the 80s, then back to Mali in the new millennium, and has produced three of his best albums in his home country. He also campaigns for the rights of albinos.
