St Pius V

225th Pope of the Catholic Church. Pontificate 1566 - 1572. He is chiefly notable for his role in the Council of Trent, the Counter-Reformation, and the standardisation of the Roman liturgy within the Latin Church. Pius V declared saint Thomas Aquinas a Doctor of the Church and patronised prominent sacred music composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. Pius V is also often credited with the origin of the Pope's white garments.
