Sun Zi wrote the earliest known military and war strategy; "The Art of War". Though little is known about him, this thirteen chapter manuscript is attributed to him. It emphasises surprise and deception. He also states the five factors that govern the art of war: the moral man, heaven, earth, the commander, method and discipline.
