Tariq al-Hashimi

Tariq al-Hashimi is an Iraqi politician. He served in the Iraqi Islamic Party. Along with Abdul Mahdi, he served as the Vice President of Iraq in the government formed after the elections in the year 2005. Tariq al-Hashimi was born in Baghdad in 1942, studied at the Baghdad military academy.

Hashimi's party represented the largest Sunni party in parliament after his election.

The Central Criminal Court of Iraq convicted the fugitive Tariq al-Hashimi in absentia for his involvement in the murder of two people and sentenced him to death. A third charge against Hashimi was dismissed for lack of evidence.
