An annual my favourite teacher contest organised by Barnes & Noble to celebrate teachers' dedication to their students and their ability to inspire. Students are invited to nominate their favourite teacher by writing essays, poems or thank you letters that share how their teacher has influenced their life and why they appreciate and admire their teacher. Entries are then judged on the compelling nature of the teacher's qualities, the sincerity of the student's appreciation and the quality of expression and writing. Teachers from Grades 1 - 12 are eligible for nomination.

Barnes & Noble announced on May 2 that Stanley Koba from Howell High School in Farmingdale, NJ, has been named the national winner and "Teacher of the Year" in its My favourite Teacher Contest. Along with the title of "Teacher of the Year," Mr. Koba and his school will each receive $5,000 prize.
