The Food Threat Preparedness Network (PrepNet)

The Food Threat Preparedness Network (PrepNet) functions across Federal departments to ensure effective coordination of food security efforts throughout the Government. PrepNet is co-chaired by the Administrator of FSIS and the Director of the centre for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Other members include the centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), the Department of defence (DOD), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The focus of this group is on preventive activities to protect the food supply proactively, as well as on rapid response. PrepNet, which works in conjunction with the Office of Homeland Security, is reviewing each agency's statutory authorities and conducting an assessment of needs, with plans to fill the statutory gaps. PrepNet members share scientific and laboratory assets.
