The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening and first aired in 1989. It is a satirical parody of a middle class American family centring on five central characters but featuring several hundred more over its 22 year run so far. The series has had 23 seasons and 503 episodes and is the longest-running animated series in the United States. The Simpsons has added several idioms to the language over its two decade run and also released a feature-length film in 2007, which was a financial success.
