The Social Network
Directed by David Fincher and staring Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin
Timberlake, and Rooney Mara, The Social Network is a 2010 drama about the founding of the social networking website Facebook and the subsequent lawsuits.
The story is adapted by Aaron Sorkin from Ben Mezrich's 2009 non-fiction The Accidental Billionaires. The film version adeptly displays Sorkin's gift for creating instantly believable sympathetic-yet-irritating characters, and the chief of these is Facebook's driving force, Mark Zuckerberg, played with exemplary intuition by Jesse Eisenberg. Neither founder Mark Zuckerberg nor any other member of the Facebook team were involved with the project.
The film was released in the United States by Columbia Pictures on October 1, 2010. It won the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama at the 68th Golden Globe Awards on January 16, 2011. On January 25th, The Social Network received 8 Oscar Nominations for the 83rd annual Academy Awards.
