Tour Triangle
A proposed skyscraper with a cone-like glassy design that, if built, will be the third-highest tower in Paris after the Eiffel Tower and the Montparnasse tower. Located near Paris' main exhibition center at Porte de Versailles on the city's southern edge, the 590 ft (180 meters) tower will feature 42 floors of office space as well as street-level shops, panoramic observatories and a panoramic restaurant on the top floor.
Designed by Swiss architectural agency Herzog and De Meuron, the tower will feature the shape of a glass pyramid with trapezoid base, wide from one side and narrow from another. The tower's bold modern glassy design projects a sharp contrast against Paris historical low-slung horizon.
Also known as Projet Triangle in French, the plan caused much controversy among Parisians proud of the city's 19th-century skyline. On November 17, 2014, the Paris City Council rejected plans to build Tour Triangle in an vote on whether Paris be preserved like the masterpieces and landmarks that draw the world's tourists here, or embrace innovation and modern architecture.
