West Bengal is one of the 28 states of India, situated in the northeastern part of the country. Its capital and largest city is Kolkata and the state's population is over 91 million people. The official languages are Bengali and English, and Nepali is also spoken in some areas. Just under three-quarters of the population are Hindus, with a further quarter being Muslims.
