Yoshihiko Noda will be Japan's Prime Minister as of Tuesday 30th August 2011, following the resignation of former leader Naoto Kan. This will make Mr. Noda the sixth Prime Minister in only five years.

Mr. Noda was promoted to leader of Japan's ruling Democratic party on Monday 29th August 2011 from his position as Finance Minister, beating out Trade Minister Banri Kaieda.

His early policies are expected to focus around stimulating the stagnant economy and reinvigorating the nuclear power industry after it has faltered following the tsunami that hit Japan in March 2011.
