On 2 April 2012, the United Kingdom government announced a £1 billion ($1.6 billion) scheme to tackle youth unemployment. The programme is led by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and its aim is to get unemployed 16 to 24 year-olds into work. The package includes 160,000 wage incentives and 250,000 work experience placements, along with 20,000 incentive payments to support employers in creating apprenticeships.
