Advection
The movement of a fluid, or of a scalar quantity that is considered to move with the fluid. In particular, in oceanography, the term refers to the horizontal or vertical flow of sea water, e.g., a current. In meteorology, it refers either to the predominantly horizontal movement of large masses of the atmosphere or to the transport of an atmospheric property solely by movement of the atmosphere.
