Genus of 3 species of evergreen, rhizomatous perennials from woodland in the Himalayas, China, and Japan. Aspidistra can withstand periods of dryness at the roots if the temperature is not too high. Aspidistra will die if the soil is constantly saturated and it will be harmed by frequent repotting.
