Athlete’s foot

A fungal infection of the skin on the foot, also called tinea pedis. The fungus is common in people with diabetes, the elderly, and people with an impaired immune system. The skin may peel, crack, bleed, or cause pain. Some people have no symptoms and do not know they have an infection. The affected skin is also more vulnerable to bacteria that cause cellulitis.
