Audio levels

The level of the audio signal in either voltage or current.

Audio levels are measured and indicated by mechanical VU-meters or electronic LED bar graph meters. It is important to maintain the proper audio level. If the audio level is too high when recording, overload of the input electronics and audio distortion will result. When audio levels are low, the signal-to-noise ratio is compromised.
