An architecture of flamboyance and swaggering excess that characterised the 17th century. Taking as a starting point the elements of classicism, Baroque architects gave their buildings an unprecedented elaboration , creating particularly dramatic spatially complex interiors heighten by ornamentation and by the use of bold lighting effects.
