Book clock

In the late 16th and early 17th centuries, when elaborate designs were popular for both clocks and watches, a number of clocks were made in the form of a book, with the movement jointed to the case. The cases were of gilded brass, pierced and chased, and they may be regarded as 'form'watches. Like the watches of the time they contained striking work, alarms, and gave elaborate astronomical information as well as the time.
