BOPOMOFO

An alphabetic script used primarily in the Republic of China (Taiwan) to write the sounds of Mandarin Chinese and some other dialects. Each symbol corresponds to the initial syllable sounds or the final syllable; It is therefore a subsyllabic script in its primary use. The name is derived from the names of its first four elements. More well known as zhuyin zimu or zhuyin fuhao in Mandarin Chinese.
