A point in a computer programme at which execution can be suspended to permit manual or automated monitoring of programme performance or results. Types include code breakpoint, data breakpoint, dynamic breakpoint, epilogue breakpoint, programmable breakpoint, prologue breakpoint, static breakpoint. Note: A breakpoint is said to be set when both a point in the programme and an event that will cause suspension of execution at that point are defined; it is said to be initiated when programme execution is suspended.
