Budae jjigae
Budae jjigae (literally "army base stew") is a type of Korean soup similar to Western stew. After the Korean War, food was scarce in South Korea and people often made use of surplus U.S. Army base food, so meat such as hotdogs, canned ham and Spam were incorporated into a traditional spicy soup flavoured with gochujiang (red chilly paste) and kimchi. The dish remains popular in South Korea today and many different ingredients can be used.
