Coated region

The region of the plasma membrane of a cell capable of endocytosis that contains receptors and is lined on the cytoplasmic side with the protein clathrin. When the receptors are occupied, these regions invaginate to form coated pits and then pinch off into coated vesicles in the cytoplasm.
