Common gateway interface (CGI)

The specification that definescommunications between information servers and resources on the server抯 host computer, such as databases andother programs. For example, when a user submits a form through a Web browser, the HTTP server executes aprogram (often called a CGI script) and passes the user抯 input information to that programme via CGI. The programthen returns information to the server via CGI. Use of CGI can make a Web page much more dynamic and addinteractivity for the user.
