Communism
Political theory promoting common ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange. The theory was first articulated by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in the 19th century and developed in the 20th by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and Mao Zedong. Communist regimes in eastern Europe and the Soviet Union collapsed between 1989 and 1991, but communism remains the official ideology in the People's Republic of China, North Korea and Cuba.
