A method to detect the control point in a metabolic pathway by observation of the effect on metabolite levels as new steady-state levels are established after sudden creation or relieving of an experimental deficiency in a controlling factor, e.g. the effect of oxygen on the redox state of reduced electron transport components, or the effect of oxygen on the levels of glycolytic intermediates of anaerobic tissue.
