Ctenanthe

Genus of about 15 species of rosette-forming, evergreen, rhizomatous perennials from damp forest floors and thickets in Costa Rica and Brazil. The Ctenanthes are closely related to the Calateas - both are eye-catching and difficult to grow. They have a long list of hates - direct sunlight, temperatures below 60 F, cold or hard water and feeding after repotting.
