Danga
An east-Asian hardwood briefly used to make shafts. Walter Hagen endorsed dangawood clubs citing a lower trajectory (compared to hickory-shafted clubs) useful in Texas where wind was an issue.
The problem for danga was that its commercial introduction came shortly before WWII, after which steel shafts quickly came to dominate the game.
There is evidence danga had been used to make clubs in Scotland as many as four centuries ago, before discovery of the vast hickory reserves of the southeastern United States.
