Design rule for camera file system

An image format for digital cameras specified by the Japan Electronic Industry Development Association (JEIDA) that defines the folder hierarchy and file format based on the Exif-JPEG standard to ensure compatibility among different makes of camera. Images can be shared among devices that conform to the Design Rule for Camera File System (DCF) regardless of model or manufacturer and images printed without a computer simply by inserting the storage medium in a compatible printer. Image files recorded in DCF format include the information on the device used to record the image, the date of recording, thumbnail data, and other information. Most cameras manufactured in Japan today conform to this standard, and it has been proposed to the International Standards organisation with the aim of having it adopted as an international standard.
