This includes such processes as compaction, cementation, reworking, authigenesis, replacement, crystallization, leaching, hydration, bacterial action, and formation of concretions that normally occur at temperatures and pressures characteristic of surface conditions. Weathering and metamorphic processes are usually excluded from this category.
