Disc cache

A portion of a computer’s RAM set aside for temporarily holding information read from disk. A disc cache does not hold entire files. Instead, it holds information that has recently been requested from disc or written to disk. The purpose of holding this information in RAM is to try to avoid reading it from disc multiple times.
