The cheese of round shape with hard, smooth and dark brown natural rind. This vegetarian, semi-soft cheese is very famous in West Cork region and is produced in Jeffa Gill's dairy. When young, the cheese is buttery, mild and slightly acidic. As such it is similar to French Tomme. The cheese flavour include caramel toffee, tart apples and a hint of smoke, with nutty creaminess. Durrus matures in four to eight weeks and a fat content is 45 per cent.
