Feedback inhibition

A form of metabolic control in which the end product of a pathway inhibits the enzyme, usually an allosteric enzyme, that catalyses the earliest irreversible reaction that is unique to the pathway. Also, the control a hormone exerts on the sequence of events that results in its synthesis and release, e.g. the action of thyroxine on secretion of thyrotropin (thryroid-stimulating hormone).
