Flood field image

A matrix of values—one for each pixel—used to compensate for the sensitivity differences between individual pixels in MV and kV image detectors. The flood field image is generated by acquiring many images using an open radiation field (either open MV jaws or kV blades) with no object between the X-ray source and the image receptor, and then averaging the images to form one correction matrix. During normal image acquistion, the flood field image is used to scale the uncorrected raw image data before display.
