Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)
A method for visualisation of a genetic marker on a chromosome by use of a fluorescent labelled polynucleotide probe that hybridises to and indicates the locus of a gene on a chromosome during mitosis (metaphase). The methodology may also be used to locate and semi-quantitatively estimate the level of a specific mRNA at the sub-cellular level.
