Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
A condition in which stomach contents flow back up into the esophagus. Gerd happens when the muscle between the oesophagus and the stomach (the lower esophageal sphincter) is weak or relaxes when it should not. It may cause esophagitis.
