Gobi desert
The Gobi is a large desert area in Asia. It covers parts of the northern and northwest China and of southern Mongolia. It's important in history also as part of the great Mongol Empire, and as location of many cities along the Silk Road. Its climate is one of great extremes, combined with rapid changes on temperature, not only through the year but also within 24 hours.
