A graph that shows regions of hydrophobicity or polarity of a protein; a line graph that displays the hydropathy index against the position of each residue of the protein. Each residue is averaged with adjacent residues in the priary sequence to smooth the plot and allow an evaluation of regions of hydrophobic residues that may form the interiors of globular proteins or transmembrane domains of membrane bound proteins.
