The upper side of the imperial hairstreak butterfly is bluish white with broad dark brown border round the outside edges of the forewings. The hindwings have an orange yellow patch in the lower corner with a black tail from the tip. The underside of the wings are creamy with yellow edges and narrow black lines across the wings, and orange yellow marking in the hindwing tips.
